Government Lobbying

Thanks to the input of both ARP and EuRA Members in the last two research projects, we have been able to ascertain that the wider mobility sphere contributes upwards of £6 billion to the UK economy. Lembit Opik is working with us to lobby parliament on our behalf to get recognition for our industry. For those of you who are not familiar, he has campaigned on many issues as a successful parliamentarian and has maintained strong connections and influence across government. 

Our approach will be in three phases:

  • In the short-term our objective is to secure a commitment from the Government to allow relocation companies to assist individuals moving into and around the UK. This will be, of course subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions in relation to Covid-19. 
  • In the medium term our objective is get the tax arrangements relating to relocation updated i.e. to see an increase to the £8,000 limit set at the beginning of the 1990s. 
  • Lastly we want to build a natural and organic relationship between the relocation sector and decision makers to ensure that the ARP is able to proactively influence opinion before policies are made. We would seek to have specific influence over policy decisions governing immigration, tax compliance and general regulations making the UK the most attractive location for inward investment via relocation. We would also seek to get relocation recognised for what it is and not just an adjunct of the property industry.
